Teen Program Staff
Position Overview:
Teen Program Staff provide youth with a safe, nurturing space and support so that they may gain self-awareness, become empowered to make safe choices, and grow as individuals in the community.
Program staff must be empathetic, self-motivated and eager to be a part of a collaborative team that is committed to the health and wellbeing of all youth and families. They should also demonstrate a commitment to principles of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion. This is a part-time position, and staff are expected to commit to regularly work between two to three days a week at minimum.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Plan, organize and lead daily activities for teens that encourage growth and learning.
Provide a listening ear, encouraging voice, and general support to teens on a daily basis, including assistance with projects and homework and attendance at individual youth activities.
Educate teens in various activities such as food preparation and cooking skills.
Plan and attend local trips with youth to participate in activities within the community.
Celebrate the diversity of the youth participating in the program.
Provide outreach to the families of the participating youth in order to strengthen bonds.
Participate in operation of the lemonade stand during the summer.
Relationships & Roles:
Officially reports to the Teen Program Director
Interacts with teen program managers, teen program staff, volunteers, and community organizations and businesses that support youth activities.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Some knowledge of adolescent development, behavior management techniques, conflict resolution and group work.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Highly effective written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to be self-motivated, energetic and enthusiastic.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Ability to communicate effectively with children, families, co-workers, and the general public.

Qualifications & Experience:
High school diploma required, some college in education or broad area of human services preferred
Some experience working with at-risk youth is required.
Must pass a criminal background check through the VT Child Care Development Division and complete required trainings (CPR/First Aid Training & Mandated Reporter)
Physical Requirements & Conditions of Work:
Work is conducted inside and outside during all seasons. Must be able to be physically active, participate in gross motor games, and walk distances to neighborhood sites. Occasional lifting of furniture, materials and children, weighing up to 50 pounds. Occasional interaction with children and families exhibiting some instability in their behavior. Some potential for risks to physical safety and security of the facility. Potential for injury from physical interplay with children, and for illness passed along from children. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
Occasional lifting of furniture and materials, weighing up to 50 pounds. Occasional interaction with youth and families exhibiting some instability in their behavior. Some potential for risks to physical safety and security of the facility. Occasional driving of youth to off-site activities.
Employment Details:
Location: This is an on-site position
Hours: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2-6pm; Wednesdays from 1-6pm
Pay: $19-21 per hour
