K-5 Program

Serving children ages kindergarten through 5th grade

The K-5 Program operates year-round, Monday through Friday providing critical programming for kids while school is not in session.

Our K-5 Program is our largest program here at King Street Center, serving 55 children and their families through education enrichment, recreation, meals, resource support, and more, Monday through Friday. Every day, children are greeted with warm meals, engaging activities, social-emotional learning, positive adult relationships, friendship-building opportunities, and community outings.

During the school year, the K-5 Program operates during afterschool hours Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 3:00-5:30pm, and on Wednesdays from 2:00-5:30pm. During school breaks (excluding December) and summer months, this program transitions to a full day camp, meeting the needs of working parents and caregivers while providing essential positive activities when school is out.

What does a typical day in K-5 Program look like?

  • A meal & snack will be provided each day through our partnership with Burlington School Food Project. Children may bring their own lunch if they would prefer.

  • We are committed to supporting students in their learning by offering homework help, Book Buddies, and tutors!

  • All learners will also have access to enrichment activities at King Street Center. Options include arts and crafts in our Laura Kate Winterbottom Art Studio, games, outdoor and indoor play, constructive and dramatic play, exploring nature, and science activities. Normally we collaborate with many community partners to enhance our programming, such as YMCA, Burlington City Arts, Audubon Vermont, Kids on the Ball Tennis, ECHO, the Flynn Center, Shelburne Farms, Burlington Parks & Recreation, and more.

  • Students should expect that lessons focused on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion will be part of their learning experience.

  • Kids in the K-5 Program are also eligible to be matched with an adult mentor, as available. These pairs meet weekly, either in person or virtually, enjoying local community adventures.
