POSITION OVERVIEW

The Teen Coordinator will support the coordination of after-school and summertime learning, recreational and life skills building activities designed for kids aged 11-18 in order to empower youth to explore their talents and find their voice. This person will also lead the KSC Lemonade Stand / Job Club Program during the Spring and Summer.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee KSC Lemonade Stand / Job Club Program 

  • Run 12 weekly training sessions with 6th and 7th grade students to teach them job related skills such as food safety, food preparation, customer service, financial literacy, day to day operations of running a lemonade stand. 

  • Create and manage schedules and shifts for lemonade stand

  • Day to day oversight and management of the lemonade stand and students working the stand

  • Run weekly “staff meetings” with lemonade stand students

  • Partner with outside organizations on prospective events and partnership opportunities

  • Support program managers in planning, organizing and leading daily activities for teens that encourage personal growth, learning and fun

  • Provide a listening ear, encouraging voice, and general support to teens on a daily basis, including assistance with projects and homework and attendance at individual youth activities

  • Educate teens in various life skills through activities such as money management, cooking/food skills, digital savviness, time management, taking direction, etc.

  • Purchase instructional materials and teaching aids in accordance with annual budget

  • Attend to health and safety matters, including reporting and record keeping.

RELATIONSHIPS & ROLES

  • Reports to Middle School Program Manager

  • Works closely with Program Leaders to plan and implement programs and to share building space

  • Interacts with teens, families, program managers, teen program staff, volunteers, and community organizations and businesses that support youth activities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES 

  • Knowledge of adolescent development, behavior management techniques, conflict resolution and group work.

  • Working knowledge of food prep, safety, basic business operations, financial literacy 

  • Strong supervision skills

  • Strong organizational and time management skills

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with children, families, co-workers, and the general public.

  • Ability to organize activities.

  • Ability to problem solve.

  • Ability to work with diverse populations.

  • Ability to follow all organizational safety protocols.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • High School diploma or equivalent; college credits in the field of Education preferred but not required

  • Minimum two (2) years of experience working with youth and planning activities. 

  • Experience working with BIPOC youth and families is preferred but not required.

  • Food service, barista, hospitality or other customer service experience preferred but not required

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/CONDITIONS OF WORK

Work is conducted inside and outside during all seasons. Must be able to be physically active, participate in gross motor games, and walk distances to neighborhood sites. Occasional lifting of furniture, materials and children, weighing up to 50 pounds. Occasional interaction with children and families exhibiting some instability in their behavior. Some potential for risks to physical safety and security of the facility.
