In our December “annual appeal,” I shared the story of Hawa and her path to Champlain College. In the letter, we quoted part of her application for the Roxane Leopold Scholarship. This letter to our community is the most critical fundraising effort of our year. I hope Hawa’s story inspires you as much as it does me.

“As a first-generation student, I did not have the educational support that I needed from my family at home. King Street was able to connect me with a tutor… who still helps with not only schoolwork but also with job searches and college applications. King Street is not only an afterschool program but it’s a space for children, youth and adults to acquire skills that they need for their future.”

I thought you might be interested to learn a little bit more about Hawa and her history at King Street Center!
